Types of Ranges in Excel Worksheet
A Single Cell Range (current Active Cell)
A Single Cell Range contains only one Cell, which is also the current Active Cell of the worksheet. To select a Single Cell Range, click on the Cell.
An example of Single Cell Range is shown below.
A Single Range (a single contiguous selection of two or more cells)
A Single Range is single contiguous selection of two or more cells. As you can see from below image, the color of one Cell inside the Range is not hi-lighted. This is the Active Cell of the Range. Normally, this is the first cell you clicked while selecting the Range.
A Single Range can be selected by left-clicking, dragging and releasing the mouse over the cells in an Excel worksheet. An example of Single Range is shown below.
Multiple Range (more than one Range in a single Excel worksheet)
Multiple Range means more than one Range in a single Excel worksheet. Note that even though there are many ranges selected in a single Excel worksheet, there can be only one Active Cell. In this case, the Active Cell is the first cell of the last Range selected.
Multiple Ranges can be selected in a single Excel worksheet, by pressing and holding the "Ctrl" key while making the Range selection. An example of Multiple Range is shown below.
